Lake Waconia covers 2,996 acres in north central Carver County. It is the second largest lake in the Twin Cities area.
Located straight west of the Twin Cities, approach this scenic lake by driving either Hwy #7 past Excelsior, or Hwy #5 beyond Victoria. Built along its southern shoreline lies the quaint city of Waconia, complete with its own town square right in the heart of old town.
About 10,000 residents reside here. Rolling tree lined streets with sidewalks showcase vintage style homes, many boast an architectural style warmly speaking directly to the heart. While preserving a presence for character & charm, this truly is a lake city seemingly endorsing future growth while preserving it’s precious past.
Lake Waconia has a maximum depth of 37 ft., & water clarity of 5 ft., considered to be fair as compared to other west metro lakes. Recreational water opportunities are bountiful. Colorful & exciting, wind-sailors flock here on predicted gusty days. Swimmers & water skiiers love the sandy beach near the southeast end of the lake, where probably just as many arrive by boat as do by entrance through the regional park. Annual contests held for fishing pro’s & locals alike, happen routinely. Walleye are stocked every year, but also try your luck at four of the other panfish species present in the lake. Sailers catch the sunsets & love the big open sky, while pontoons happily shuffle along over to Coney Island. Choose to participate on this lake, or simply enjoy the views. Someone, somewhere, will always be enjoying Lake Waconia for everything it has to offer.
